Extra Space Around HTML Forms

Has anyone dealt with the issue of extra space around (especially right
below) a form on a web page? I've found that in most browsers there seems
to be an extra line of space or so below a form that pushes anything else
out of it's way. I was hoping there might be a way of controlling that.

One way I've done it in the past, when I've got multiple forms in a column,
is to use a table to line them up, but put the <.form> and the <./form>
tags between the TR and TD tags. The reason I did that was because I'd
noticed that a messed up table would put content it didn't know what to do
with at the end of the entire table. This worked for a while. BUT, now I
want to validate my pages, and I can't mix the form and table cell
container tags in that way - according to the validator. :)

SO, any ideas? (I'm hoping I explained all this understandably enough.)
